A fantatsic sports theme commercial that isn’t from Nike! It really really reminds me of the Nike ‘Let Your Game Speak’ commercial – see it here - and there’s a good reason; Jonathan Elias did the music for both ads.

Best phrases to make you sound like a World Cup expert
Posted in Sports on Jul 2nd, 2010
“They’re well organized at the back” “That foul was a bit cynical” “They deserved to win” “They’re really looking for the equalizer here” “They’re showing great discipline” “He’s picked up the foul, but it was a bit harsh from the referee I think”
World Cup thoughts, part 2

Wow, England got absolutely hammered. They played absolutely horribly the first 30 minutes – I guess the US isn’t the only team having trouble early in games. 1) A lot of people are going to point to the final score and say that the non-call on Lampard’s goal didn’t change the outcome of the game. [...]
World Cup thoughts

EDIT: Well, a disapppointing loss for the US vs Ghana – the second WC in a row to go out to Ghana. The US wasted perhaps the best draw they could get to the semi-finals because they can’t seem to stop giving up goals in the first 5 minutes of the starting whistle. Give them [...]
Baseball drama
Posted in Sports on Oct 7th, 2009
For better or worse, I stayed up to 3am in the morning watching the Twins amazingly, impossibly, improbably, inexplicably, beating the Detroit Tigers 6-5 in 12 innings. It was without a doubt one of the most amazing baseball games – nay, amazing sporting events, period – that I have ever watched, and while I’m in [...]
Serena vs line official – Serena wrong, line official more wrong

OK, I interrupt our Capri trip notes to discuss Serena Williams being bounced from the US Open after being docked a penalty point on match point in her semi-final match vs Kim Clijsters. First – taking nothing away from Kim’s play – I think she has put on a little weight, but this has probably [...]
2009 Fantasy Football draft results
Posted in Sports on Sep 5th, 2009
Had my fantasy football draft last night (note: by football, I mean real football, as in American football. I am also in a UK football (a.k.a. soccer) fantasy league, which I happen to be winning – granted, it’s early). I’ve been playing with the same group of guys four four-five years now, but this was [...]
OK, I know it’s early, but after Tottenham’s 5-1 dismantling of Hull City, Spurs sit atop of the Premier League table after two games. Pity the game wasn’t on TV anywhere – not even radio, at least I wasn’t able to find anything. The current top four doesn’t include Man U! That’s happy thought number [...]
Much to FM’s chagrin, I am a Tottenham supporter. FM is a (ugh) Liverpool supporter, so it was with no small delight that I can report that Tottenham beat Liverpool 2-1 in opening week for the Premier League. So after the first week Tottenham is tied for first! We’ll see how long they stay there…
Football season is upon us.

No, not that football season – I’m talking about UK football – As I noted a couple of months ago, my wife and I have decided Tottenham Hotspur (much to the horror of one of my friends, a staunch Liverpool supporter. Although, in his words, ‘at least you didn’t go for Chelski, or Arse’n’all. And [...]
