Adair at six months!

Been a while since we’ve put some Adair pictures up. Since it’s World Cup time, we got this shirt for Adair. Shame England left the World Cup so early….      Actually, as you can see in the picture above, we got a high-chair for Adair this past weekend – kind of like a birthday present, [...]

Leeds Castle

The MBH, MBH’s mom, Adair, and I made a short excursion out to Leeds Castle last weekend. It was a fairly easy 75-80 minute drive east of London, and only about 30 minutes west of Canterbury. Leeds Castle was built in the 1200s, and spent generations being owned by various queens of England. Most famously, King [...]

Waffle House

The weather hasn’t been that great the last few days. We had made plans to visit Leeds Castle and Canterbury over the Easter break, but the weather wasn’t cooperating. So instead we made a shorter trip to St. Albans, about 30 minutes or so north of where we live in London: we all piled into [...]

Greenwich

The days are getting increasingly shorter – back in July or so, it was light out until almost 10pm. Now it starts getting dark seemingly from around 5 or 6pm. So the MBH and I are trying to take advantage of any favorable weather on the weekends. A couple of weeks ago I went out [...]

Spurs

Much to FM’s chagrin, I am a Tottenham supporter. FM is a (ugh) Liverpool supporter, so it was with no small delight that I can report that Tottenham beat Liverpool 2-1 in opening week for the Premier League. So after the first week Tottenham is tied for first! We’ll see how long they stay there…

Proms & Denham

Every year, the BBC sponsors an eight-week classic concert festival – the BBC Proms. Most of the events are held at Royal Albert Hall.    The MBH and I have talked about enjoying the arts and culture here in London, since the opportunity to do so in Tokyo is considerably more limited. So when we [...]

Opera!

When the MBH and I learned we were headed for Ol’ Blighty one of the things we wanted to take advantage of was the culture. While Tokyo isn’t without its art society, it obviously isn’t near as ambitious or as accessible as in London or New York. I actually listen to classical music on occasion [...]

Passed…

…out? ….gas? Neither – passed my UK driver’s exam. The UK didn’t like my US driver’s license – apparently driving on the other side of the road presented a problem for them. My MBH, who has a Japanese license, got a full UK license straight away; I had to go the full test route – [...]
